Financial aid and year-end fundraising: new ASU social media toolkit pilots

One post, two posts, three posts or more a day. We all know that social media can be a hungry beast that’s challenging to feed with useful and meaningful content for our audiences. In an enterprise as large as ASU, content opportunities abound but resources to create content are often less bountiful. Enter the first social media toolkit pilots — created in partnership with key ASU units and the Enterprise Marketing Hub to support your content needs, the needs of your audiences and elevate messaging around universitywide priorities.

You’ve likely seen (and hopefully used) the campaign-specific toolkits the Hub has created in the past for commencement — Return to Campus, Salute to Service, etc. The new pilots for financial aid and year-end fundraising are focused on content that is evergreen and content that can be used for the cyclical messaging needs of the university community and its audiences.

Financial aid
Is the new FAFSA open? Is it time to remind students that spring 2021 financial aid deadlines are approaching? PESC, in collaboration with Financial Aid and Admission Services, has created evergreen graphics and messaging you can add to your social media content calendar throughout the year.

Year-end fundraising
Looking for content to fill out your end-of-year social media schedule and ways to encourage the support of student scholarships, research or university initiatives? The ASU Foundation has created a toolkit with messaging and graphics that any ASU social account can use to promote year-end giving.

Please let us know if you find these useful, and if so, what other toolkits you’d like to see available to the community for ongoing use. Interested in collaborating with the Hub on a social media toolkit for the community? Contact Sarah Hough.

It’s in the presentation: Updated brand-aligned template now available

There’s no single formula for a great talk but here’s a secret ingredient that all ASU brand-aligned presentations have in common: the Hub’s presentation template. This template (in a 16:9 ratio) makes giving brand-aligned presentations quicker and easier than ever before. The layout includes a title slide, table of contents, feature pages, bulleted lists and multiple-column options. We’ve also added in many design elements of web standards 2.0 for better brand alignment.

Web Standards 2.0 update: First compliance date is end of January

Reminder: The first compliance deadline for all asu.edu pages and subdomains is the installation of the new global header and footer installed by the end of January. This first compliance phase, Web Standards 2.0 Limited (WS2L), prioritizes the implementation of new global navigation to help address the areas most negatively affecting user satisfaction with asu.edu, navigation, subdomain identification, information browsing and search.

The University Technology Office will hold an office hours-style Marketing Academy session on Wednesday, Jan. 6 to help units with Web Standards 2.0 Limited technical implementation questions.

See examples of WS2L implementation by ASU units.

UTO has launched unity.web.asu.edu as the first platform-agnostic shared code repository for asu.edu. Unity, the new design system for asu.edu, is a comprehensive brand-aligned framework of color, spacing, typography/fonts, a page grid and content display options that prioritizes improved navigation, mobile optimization, accessibility and a strong execution of the ASU brand.

Learn how to request access to the Adobe XD template and access the shared Unity Design System Adobe XD Cloud Library.

A broader project status update was provided at the December web community meeting by the Enterprise Marketing Hub and UTO project team. Updates include recent studios, design/UX components, SEO for asu.edu, new UTO lead project team members and an update on the status of Webspark 2 (Drupal 9) development.

Social AR filters and lenses lookbook

In 2020, social augmented reality (AR) filters and lenses have allowed some fun and interactive ways to connect with the community. AR filters can enhance a virtual event experience, as in the case of commencement or Gameday. Filters also allow our audience to show their ASU pride on social media and even in Zoom meetings.

A lookbook has been created showcasing some of the top-performing filters and lenses of the year along with best practices when creating and publishing them.
